It’s no secret that at Rachel’s Boutique we love jewelry. It’s the perfect way to elevate and personalize any ensemble; what’s not to love? Even more so, Rachel’s is drawn to jewelry that tells a story, a prominent trait of one of our favorite brands, BLO Vintage. Founder and designer Allison Stackpole’s BLO Vintage features accessories that blend artistry, utility, and narrative. Each design carries a story, informed by a token handed down through Allison’s family since the 1960’s: a whistle. Leaving home for college is an exciting milestone in any young person’s life. Your first taste of independence and all the thrilling, nerve-wracking moments that accompany it. As she embarked on her collegiate journey, Allison’s mother gifted her a whistle as a safety precaution, the gesture made even more meaningful by the fact that it was the same whistle passed down by her mother in 1960. The whistle served as a constant reminder to Allison over the years of the loving bond she shared with her mother and ultimately inspired BLO Vintage.
The spirit of the original whistle undoubtedly guides Allison’s work: Her designs feature variations of whistles, harmonicas and pitch pipes through time and incorporating an array of colors and materials. But here’s what sets Allison’s designs apart: the whistles actually work! Allison’s belief that everyone should have a whistle to feel secure is evident by the whistles’ functionality. But Allison’s dedication to safety doesn’t stop with her designs. BLO Vintage is an ardent supporter of efforts to raise awareness for Campus Safety at universities and colleges across the nation. In this way, Allison continues a familial legacy of providing safety measures to women in their formative college years. BLO Vintage is one of our favorite brands here at Rachel’s Boutique. The necklaces add a fun, vintage twist to any ensemble and are sure to become a staple statement piece. A broad assortment of unique designs and various colors are the perfect accessory for adding interest to any combination of outfits. Even more than beautiful designs, BLO Vintage creations represent a tangible expression of love, a virtue spanning generations in Allison’s family. Allison continues this tradition by creating beautiful pieces that offer a sense of protection and tell a story. Fusing history, style, and function, BLO Vintage pieces are “beautifully empowering” for the wearer. At Rachel’s Boutique, we are excited to play apart in furthering BLO Vintage’s story and helping you tell yours. It is time to transitions your style from winter!
Spring is finally on its way, which means it’s out with the old and in with the new. Around town, people shaking off the cold dust of winter and embracing the newfound sunshine in spring. This includes cleaning around the house, putting away the snow shovel and of course, preparing your wardrobe for the transition to spring. At Rachel’s Boutique, we’re all about providing chic fashion for women, no matter what season it is. But there tends to be a few weeks “in between” winter and spring, when it’s not quite warm enough to wear shorts and a T-shirt, but not quite cold enough to don your boots and coat. We call this the “transition time,” and it’s the perfect opportunity to embrace unique styles. Check out how you can stay on trend this season and transition your style from winter to spring. 1. Choose a denim jacket. A statement denim jacket is the must-have accessory for any cool spring day. As the mornings start chilly and warm up throughout the day, a denim jacket can keep you warm, but be peeled off whenever necessary. Plus, it’s the ideal look to dress things up or keep it casual. Pair your favorite jacket with a cute maxi dress, or show off a colored sweater underneath for the cooler days. Denim jackets go with almost any outfit, and are a great transition piece to keep on hand. 2. Embrace layers. Speaking of jackets, the fresh springtime is a great opportunity to embrace layers in your wardrobe. You might have packed on the heavy-duty layers during winter, but now you can try out lighter pieces, to keep you warm on chilly days, but peel off on warmer days. Choose lightweight fabrics like a cotton sweater to make layering easier over a T-shirt or under a blazer. Then, add a light scarf for those cooler mornings. As the day warms up, feel free to peel the layers off and reveal your next cute outfit underneath. 3. Add in pops of color. Springtime is all about color. Goodbye winter, with your faded neutrals and subdued hues! As we transition into spring, don’t be afraid to bring in pops of color to your wardrobe. However, there’s no need to dive right in. Start by adding a bright accessory for a touch of color to the outfit. Or, pair a subdued blouse with a white pair of pants. As the weather warms up, nature slowly becomes more colorful, and so you can you. 4. Introduce prints. As you bring in color to your newfound spring fashion, feel free to introduce prints along the way. Prints are a fun way to embrace the changing landscape of nature around you. Florals are very popular with today’s style trends, but you can also include stripes or textured garments. Oftentimes, a great print can make any outfit seem reborn in the beautiful spring sunshine. 5. Pull out the dresses. Finally, this one’s a favorite of ours: let your legs be free! You might have worn a few dresses in winter, but chances are they were heavy, dark and paired with tights. Instead, now’s your time to mix things up a bit. Pull out your best-loved spring dresses for a lighter, more colorful, cheerful outfit. And when the days are still a bit on the cool side, remember what we said about that jean jacket. Pair your ideal spring dresses with a jacket, blazer or cardigan for the same spring look you love, but a bit warmer. Winter is on its way out the door, and spring will soon be arriving. It’s time to put away your snow boots and embrace the beautiful sunshine of spring with colorful fashion trends. As we transition between seasons for these next few weeks, keep these tips in mind for your spring wardrobe. Then you can walk into spring looking—and feeling—better than ever. |
